FlexSlider (WooThemes) With Animated Title and Caption

Flexslider is a popular jQuery responsive slider that provides designers and developers a fast way to get up and running with a image slider. We like it so much that we’ve used it as home page slider on this site.

The plugin is released under the MIT license. You can use it for all your projects for free and without any restrictions. You may modify the plugin as you wish.

  • Simple, semantic markup.
  • Supported in Safari 4+, Chrome 4+, Firefox 3.6+, Opera 10+, and IE7+.
  • iOS and Android devices are supported as well.
  • Slide and Fade animations.
  • Highly customizable slider options.
  • Directional, keyboard, and touch swipe navigation.
  • Lightweight (5 Kb minified).
  • You can use all HTML elements in the slides.
  • Free to use under the MIT license.

So this was the basic details about the plugin. When you’ll download the plguin from WooThemes or from its GitHub page, you’ll find that it is having a simple demonstration. In FlexSlider’s default demonstration you’ll find a simple slider with simple title and caption. But what if you want to use custom animated title and caption with each slide. In this article you’ll find the linked demo and download for FlexSlider with animated title and caption.

How an HTML Sitemap Can Improve your Search Engine Optimization

HTML sitemap is one of several important tactics to improve performance of your site on search engines. It is quite useful in distributing your link juice within site efficiently. You can use HTML sitemap to boost your search engine optimization. Yet many bloggers and webmasters ignore it.

Now first of all you should know, what is HTML sitemap?

HTML sitemap is just a simple html page of your website and this outlines the whole structure of your website. It links to all pages on your site.

It is really important to understand the difference between xml sitemap and html sitemap before moving further.

If you are having crawling or indexation problem on your site XML site maps are helpful but on contrary if you are not having such problems with your website it is not essential.

The HTML sitemap is a regular webpage and it can be read by search engine bots as well as by users. HTML sitemap link backs to all the pages your website have although you can exclude pages which are not important.

For search engine optimization point of view its very good to have external back links pointing to your HTML sitemap. It is good and beneficial because the juice coming for the external back link will be distributed to all the pages on your website.

So, consider dropping your signature link or author link pointing to your HTML sitemap instead of you home page link next time.

Cheers :)

Why to use Content Management System (CMS)

These days many websites, especially small business websites are built using static webpages. Utilizing technologies like html, javascript, css, jQuery and PHP code.  And this code is difficult to access and manipulate for a normal user who don’t have expertise in these technologies. To solve this website design and maintenance problem, a new concept of Reorganization of information in websites through back end is introduced and is termed as Content Management System(CMS).

A CMS uses a database to store, retrieve, and edit the content of your website.  Each page of your site is stored as simple text – making it easy to edit, search, and manipulate. When someone visits your website the CMS automatically converts your text into the required HTML and Javascript. Furthermore, the CMS database allows for additional features to be easily integrated into the website: user login and passwords, events and calendars, blogs, news feeds, and much more.

The advantages of using a CMS

Whilst  your visitors may never know whether your website is built with a CMS or the traditional static page form of website, the difference is something that you – as the site’s owner – will notice from the word go. Here are the significant advantages of using a CMS to build and deploy your business’s website:

  • Non-technical contributors can edit pages and expand a site’s content: no knowledge of HTML is required.
  • A separation is maintained between a website’s content, its structure and its visual design; a change in one of these can be done independently of the others. A complete visual re-design of a whole site can be done without touching the site’s content or its structure.
  • When new content is added, its visual appearance conforms to the design already established for the sort of content being added.
  • When pages are added or deleted, the site’s menus are updated automatically.
  • Updates to the site can be made at any time by anyone with the correct permissions.
  • Requirements for image sizes can be gracefully enforced.
  • Best practice with regard to search engines can be gracefully enforced (page titles, meaningful URLs, correct metadata, etc).
  • Changes made to the content of a website can be automatically posted to major search engines.

Although most CMSs will support the following additions to a ‘brochure’ website, Drupal will breeze through each of them:

  • a newsletter: email highlights from your website by point-and-click selecting both content and recipients
  • role authentication: designate specific people to perform specific tasks on your website
  • email notifications: email anyone (users or yourself) in response to any event on the site
  • a forum
  • an ecommerce/shopping system
  • content moderation queuing: hold newly-posted content until you’ve approved it for publication
